BlackJack Wines

BlackJack Vineyards is situated on the old granite soils of the Harcourt Valley, near Castlemaine, in the Bendigo Wine Region of Central Victoria.

BlackJack was the name given to an American sailor, who in the gold rush era of the 1850s found his way to the alluvial Castlemaine gold fields. A road adjacent to BlackJack Vineyards still bears his name.

Perhaps following a similar dream, but in the search of liquid gold, the McKenzie and Pollock families planted the first vines in 1988. BlackJack released its first wine in 1994, and since then has established an enviable reputation for producing fine and generous red wine. In 1996, and again in 2004, the BlackJack Shiraz won the Trophy for the Best Shiraz at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show, along with the Premier’s Trophy for the Best Victorian Red Wine in 2004. These awards, and others, have cemented BlackJack’s reputation as a producer of high quality, distinctive red wine.

Further positive views from a wide cross section of the wine media are listed on our website, www.blackjackwines.com.au.

BlackJack is a registered Trademark in the USA (Reg.No.2831047 November 2004).

BlackJack plans to release another Shiraz aimed at the export market, around the AUD$130 case price point. This wine was first made in 2004, from grapes grown at another vineyard site in the Harcourt Valley.

Increased production levels (since 2004) have given BlackJack Vineyards scope to expand and sustain an export market. It is our intention to expand our exports to around 20% of our production. Our new target markets include the United States and Canada, and we intend to build on our Singapore market through an already established relationship with importer Cornerstone Wines. This connection came through Austrade at the Wine of Asia Exhibition in Singapore 2005.
